I love the holidays. I love the lights, the weather, the decorations, the parties, and of course the food. But……I eat a primarily paleo diet. Does that mean that I go totally off the deep end. I try not to. I try to remember to take some steps to set myself up for success. At most Holiday parties it is almost always okay to bring an appetizer to share. If the party is on the casual side, I bring Guacamole-Paleo Style. I slice up cucumbers and carrots and bring those instead of chips. No one ever complains and many people find the vegetables a refreshing change from the regular chips.
If the party is a bit more formal I bring a shrimp dish. One of my favorite is
Chili Shrimp. Everyone seems to love it and there are never any leftovers.
I also carry La Croix sparkling water in my purse. I can mix it with vodka if I am indulging in a cocktail or I can have it alcohol free over ice with a lime twist and no-one is the wiser.
Let me know if these tips help you survive the holidays. Please send in your tips for surviving the holiday parties paleo style. xoxo
2-3 ripe avocados, chopped
1/2 C diced green chiles
1/4 C diced tomatoes
1/4 C diced green onion
1/2-1 tsp garlic powder
Juice of 1 lime
Salt and Pepper to taste.
Mash the avocados. Add the remaining ingredients and stir. Taste, add more salt, pepper or garlic powder if necessary. Enjoy!!
1 lb medium sized shrimp, cooked and peeled
1 TBS olive oil
2 TBS chile powder
1-2 tsp garlic powder
Heat oil in a large frying pan. Add shrimp and sauce 1-2 minutes. Cover shrimp with chile powder and garlic. Heat through. Place on serving dish. Sometimes I serve the shrimp on top of pineapple chunks with a toothpick holding the shrimp on the pineapple. With or without the pineapple these shrimp are delicious. Enjoy xoxo
